Faith and Labor: The Issues

April 23rd, 2007

San Diego County is an especially costly region where the low-wage service sector is expanding rapidly.  Too many workers meet a hostile atmosphere surrounding their campaigns for worker justice.  We find that the workers in these jobs are often “invisible” to society, and on the threshold of poverty; they face the hard realities of low-wages, long hours, often multiple jobs, and lack of access to health care.  These workers are predominantly women and recent immigrants who are harassed, intimidated, and retaliated against in the workplace when they seek to obtain the justice they deserve.

This section will provide insight into some of the issues that affect working people.  Everyone deserves humane and just treatment in the workplace, and it is important that we, as members of the faith community, become educated about important issues that face many workers.
